Infiniti QX55 vs. BMW X4

Both the Infiniti QX55 from Nissan and the BMW X4 have established very decent reputations for themselves in the exclusive, executive car niche. Both are sporty, compact luxury crossover SUVs, and are at the top of the luxury crossover SUV market. When people are looking to purchase a new compact luxury crossover SUV, they are commonly presented with an Infiniti QX55 vs BMW X4 dilemma.

That’s one dilemma that we are hopefully here to solve with our Infiniti QX55 vs BMW X4 comparison. We think it’s going to be a close call, but which luxury SUV is likely to come out on top?

The Infiniti QX55 vs BMW X4 Comparison – Which is the Better Luxury Crossover SUV?

The look and feel of any automobile are of the utmost importance to any luxury car owner, and here the QX55 clearly outshines the BMW X4. The designers of the QX55 have opted for a pared-back appearance that’s largely based on Nissan’s popular QX50. The standard fit has faux-leather upholstery but both semi-aniline leather and genuine leather are available as upgrades. Unlike most luxury SUVs which default to carbon-fiber trim, Nissan has refreshingly decided to use open-pore wood instead which gives the QX55 a genuine classy feel.

Inside the BMW X4 you get a more contemporary look and feel, which may appeal to those who are not too bothered about classic design features. The central instrument stack is certainly busy and almost gives a futuristic impression, although the fact that the infotainment screen is hidden behind a shield and has to be popped into view to use seems as if it could soon become an annoyance.

The BMW X4 is also tight on cargo space, as with all the seats in place you only get 19 cubic feet to play with, and 51 cubic feet when the rear seats are folded down. With the QX55 its 26.9 cubic feet even when fully loaded with passengers, and 54.1 cubic feet with the front seats folded down.

Continuing the Infiniti QX55 vs BMW X4 Comparison – Power and Performance

The QX55 is powered by a 2-0 liter inline-4 turbocharged engine which means it is capable of 268 hp at 5,600 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the BMW X4 has a 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. If you want more power from your BMW X4 then you will need to upgrade to the M40i which gives 382 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque, but of course, that upgrade is at a costly premium.
