Infiniti QX50 vs. Volvo XC60

If you are in the market for a midsize SUV capable of seating five people, then you’ve probably considered both the Infiniti QX50 and the Volvo XC60. It is not an easy choice as these are two similar vehicles, so the Infiniti QX50 vs Volvo XC60 dilemma is one that plenty of motorists have to confront. Here we are going to do our best to help, with our Infiniti QX50 vs Volvo XC60 comparison – which is the better midsize SUV?

Making the Luxury Midsize SUV Comparison – Infiniti QX50 vs Volvo XC60

The Infiniti QX50 comes equipped with a powerful engine – the standard 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder engine that most of Infiniti’s top end QX vehicles are equipped with. This engine is capable of generating 268 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. The basic version of the Volvo XC60 is much less powerful despite it also being a direct-injected turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. It can only manage 247 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, making the Infiniti QX50 the clear winner here. There is an upgraded version of the Volvo XC60 which is branded the B6 AWD R-Design that comes equipped with a more powerful engine, but that of course is at a costly premium.

Both these vehicles are two-row, five-passenger SUVs, and in terms of dimensions, they are strikingly similar. They are practically the same length, although the QX50 is both slightly taller and slightly wider. The differences are so negligible though that it barely makes any difference whatsoever. Infiniti QX50 vs Volvo XC60 – Which is the Better Looking Vehicle?

One of the main joys of owning a premium midsize SUV is that your vehicle gets noticed wherever you drive it. Both these cars ooze style and class, and although it is a matter of opinion you are going to turn more heads with the QX50 than the XC60. Nissan has gifted the QX50 the classic Infiniti look that marries class with a very modern aesthetic. The Volvo is the less impressive-looking vehicle, and many commentators have said that on the exterior, the Volvo XC60 doesn’t look like a luxury vehicle at all.

Inside the Infiniti QX50 Nissan has opted for luxurious materials such as Ultrasuede and leather with Nissan’s signature artistry. It also has several innovative technologies that are designed to make every journey you take in your QX50 a relaxing experience. The central instrument panel is nicely subtle though, instead of making you feel you are piloting the Starship Enterprise. The interior of the XC60 is less subtle and matches the dated feel of the Volvo’s exterior. Despite this, the XC60 does come with a full suite of driver assistance aids.

Infiniti QX50 vs. BMW X3

The Infiniti QX50 has been marketed as the most advanced compact SUV ever manufactured by Nissan. It is certainly a quality, premium SUV that has become very popular in the United States, but it does have its rivals, including the BMW X3. People in the market for a luxury SUV are often faced with an Infiniti QX50 vs BMW X3 dilemma.

If you are in the middle of an Infiniti QX50 vs BMW X3 choice, then we are here to help with our Infiniti QX50 vs BMW X3 comparison. Which is the better vehicle?

The Infiniti QX50 vs BMW X3 Comparison – Which is the Better Premium Compact SUV?

The first aspect of these two cars that we need to address is price. There is no getting away from the fact that if you were to compare the most popular trim of the BMW X3 with the equivalent trim of the Infiniti QX50, the BMW X3 is by far the most expensive vehicle. For a new model, you can expect to pay around $5,000 more for a BMW X3 then you would for the equivalent Infiniti QX50 configuration. That differential reduces with preowned models, but you will always pay more for the X3.

In terms of power there is virtually nothing to choose between them, which makes the price tag of the Infiniti QX50 even more attractive. Both have a 2.0L turbo inline-4 gas-powered engine. The BMW X3 goes with an 8-speed automatic transmission with RWD, while the QX50 has a continuously variable transmission with FWD. The fuel economy is identical too – around 23 MPG in the city, and 29 MPG on the highway.

Helping You Make the Choice Between Premium SUVs – Infiniti QX50 vs BMW X3

Despite these similarities the Infiniti QX50 is the most powerful of the two, generating 268 hp @ 5,600 rpm and 280 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. This compares to the BMW X3 at 248 hp @ 5,200 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque at 1,450 rpm, making the QX50 the clear winner.

These are both 5-seater, 2-row SUVs and are practically identical in length, and in terms of headroom and legroom. You do get more cargo space with the QX50 though – 65.1 cubic feet compared to 62.7 cubic feet with the BMW X3. The standard warranty with the QX50 is better too – up to 4 years or 60,000 miles which is 10,000 miles more than the BMW X3.
